Laura U is an award winning, full-service interior design firm specializing in high-end residential interiors. We are a team working to create innovative and detailed interiors while focusing on top-notch client service. Our firm provides fabulous design services and focus heavily on detailed project management for clients in Houston and throughout the US. 

We are seeking a FULL TIME, sharp and committed ASSOCIATE INTERIOR DESIGNER with a degree in INTERIOR DESIGN OR ARCHITECTURE from an accredited university. You must thrive in a fast paced, team-based work environment. We require focus, enthusiasm, and efficiency. We are a fun, exciting group that enjoys our field, our projects, and our clients. You work well under pressure and have fabulous follow through. A positive attitude and a focus on a streamlined process are extremely important! This position requires a proactive approach, an ability to be self-motivated, work independently, and also work well in a tight-knit team environment.

Educational Requirements:

 A Bachelors or Masters degree in interior design or architecture from an accredited


 A minimum of 1 year of interior design experience

 A degree in a field other than interior design or architecture plus 3 years of interior

design experience

 Active Member of ASID/IIDA/AIA

 Complete .3 CEUs annually


 Hand Drafting/Sketching: Proficient

 AutoCAD 2011 and later: Proficient

 Revit, Sketchup, and 3D rendering a plus

 StudioWeb: Novice, will train

 Microsoft Office:

o Word: Proficient, will train

o Excel: Proficient, will train

o PowerPoint: Proficient, will train

o Outlook: Proficient, will train

Position Requirements:

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 Some direct interaction with High Net Worth clients

 Ability to contribute to concurrent projects (up to 7 at one time)

 Ability to maintain a balanced workflow and meet deadlines

 Assist in collaboration with architects, lighting designers, audio/video contractors,

developers, builders, General contractors, sub contractors, vendors, and fabricators

 Report to and take instruction from Senior Interior Designer

 Communication with Principal Designer and Upper Management

o Meet monthly with Principal

o Meet quarterly with Management to review Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

 Under direction of Senior Designer, make selections for the following:

o Architectural Materials

o Furnishings

o Fabrics

o Lighting

o Art & Accessories

 Under direction of Senior Designer, produce Interior Architectural drawings: plans,

elevations, sections, details

o Plumbing & Lighting layouts

o Custom Millwork: kitchen, closets, bathrooms, etc...

o Tile designs

 Assist in the production of detailed ordering documents

 Assist in the production of clear and detailed finish schedules

 Assist in the production of presentations to convey your design clearly to clients using

this software:

o Powerpoint

o AutoCAD

o Excel

 Ability to effectively work with a small team of interior designers

o Accept and complete tasks delegated to you by the Senior Designers

o Prepare work for review by Senior Designer for quality assurance

o Willingly accept constructive criticism for the improvement of your skill set

o Use your best judgement to ensure projects are done on time and to the highest

degree of quality

 Under direction on Senior Designer collaborate with Purchasing agent:

o Submit spec sheet/work order for each item

o Meet weekly to review all project expediting

o Address any issues in a timely fashion

o Track any project ordering variances

o Submit change orders to clients as needed

o Create budget vs. actual document to submit to Creative Director for review

o Schedule installations

o Submit damage claims to PA for processing or return

 Attend all project installations to ensure your teams’ designs are executed perfectly and

to the client’s satisfaction

 Under direction of Senior Designer follow up with client on any issues or additions after

each project installation
