Assouline is searching for the ideal candidate with a unique skill set. The ability to handle Construction and Design from concept through installation in the luxury retail market, as well as a strong background in furniture design, lighting design, millwork and sourcing. Strong ability to produce and oversee fabrication drawings, detailed specifications, and budgets is integral to the position. The ability to negotiate with general contractors, fabricators, and manufacturers is critical. This position reports to the VP of Retail.


  • Manage contractors, other consultants, junior designer & retail partners for all Store Planning projects
  • Effectively implement and reinforce brand design, construction & maintenance project standards
  • Produce space planning, elevations, and ID documents in AutoCAD
  • Read construction documents, red-line shop drawings, and produce take-offs for owner supplied materials and to maintain standard operating procedures & established construction timelines & budgets
  • Coordinate and manage all phases of new or temporary store construction and remodels including overseeing of quality control, budget proposals and final account settlements
  • Track all project deadlines, budgets, deliverables including owner-supplied items
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope and devise contingency plans/options when applicable
  • Perform periodic site visits and inspect progress of construction projects and installations as needed
  • Ensure completion of punch lists and proper close-out of all projects
  • Support repair and maintenance responsibilities and budgets for existing store network
  • Assist in benchmarking local sourced materials, vendors and contractors
  • Help build, develop & grow existing and new local suppliers’ national and international network and business relationships
  • Plan and prioritize purchasing activities
  • Reviews planned orders, creates requisitions for purchased items, and manages approval process & purchases
  • Tracks orders and confirms lead times, delivery dates, and costs
  • Reviews, updates, and maintains purchase orders until they are closed
  • Maintain and help to evolve design resources / library
  • Frequent client interaction/presentations
  • Studying, researching and planning various styles of furniture design; keeping informed about design trends and developments
  • Reports to VP of Retail


  • Ideal candidate will have MINIMUM (5) years of strong retail Interior Design built-out  experience in a luxury goods environment.
  • Ability to read and red-line full drawing sets is a MUST.
  • Prior Project Management experience including budgets & negotiation skills
  • Must have excellent computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office with experience in AutoCAD, Adobe PhotoShop and Acrobat
  • College Degree in related areas is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, follow up and problem solving and negotiation skills are required.
  • Knowledge of permits and building standards.
  • Creative ability to understand overall vision and execute design from inception to installation.
  • Ability to travel & valid driver’s license required.
