OTTRA by Zimmerman Workshop is looking for talent with a background in design, but with an urge to get dirty making. As an architect myself, we have hired architects and designers in the past with great success. This position is perfect for someone looking to change it up while still utilizing their digital expertise gained working in the fields of architecture and design. Come here to do what you're already doing, but where you get to actually build what you're drawing.
We need a CNC programmer, operator and craftsman to digitally fabricate hardwood furniture, objects and installations.
OTTRA is a wood furniture design and manufacturing company based in Red Hook Brooklyn. Ottra is the fabrication brand operating side by side with our Architecture and Design Studio. We are looking for someone skilled and able, who can jump right in. We need an expert at Rhino (CAM is a plus but can be taught) and an understanding of CNC operations. We need someone who can take a concept model and run with it. We need somebody who is smart, quick, hardworking and understands wood furniture and fabrication. This person is also a wood craftsman (or would like to become one) who can mill lumber, fabricate blanks on the front end, then assemble, sand and finish on the backend.

Requirements and responsibilities include:
- Customizing existing designs – we frequently modify our existing designs upon request. You will be required to do so for both sales and production purposes.
- CNC programming – we use RhinoCam to create cut files and CNC parts.
- Shop Drawings – you will be required to provide shop drawings to the manufacturing team illustrating the parts and construction.
- Fabrication - you will build your own projects from start to finish. Larger projects require teamwork whereas smaller projects may be solo. You will be working inside a woodshop so there is a physical component to the job requiring operating machinery and working with heavy lumber.
- We expect someone who knows what good design is. You must be your own toughest critic and understand that excellent design requires excellent work. We expect you have an internal sense that “it’s not right or done until it’s right.”
- Experience in professional woodshops creating fine wood furniture and millwork in a commercial environment is a plus. Knowing how to mill lumber, assemble blanks, sand and finish is a must.
- Despite experience level, applicants are expected to have quick learning skills and a desire for perfection.
- The ability to work well with others, often as a team, is essential.
- Must be able to apply your wide array of experiences to solve new problems.
- We expect you to be responsible. Responsible means being on time everyday amongst other things. We will count on you to be here and perform your duties each day without excuses.
- We expect you to be cooperative, and collaborative, a team player.
We’re looking for an all-around great addition to our team, someone looking for a chance to standout. Standouts are always recognized and given the opportunity to shine and grow.
