Interim Proposal Manager

Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) is an interdisciplinary design studio that integrates architecture, the visual arts, and the performing arts. Based in New York City, DS+R is led by four partners who work collaboratively with a staff of 100 architects, artists, and administrators.

We are seeking an experienced professional for the position of Interim Proposal Manager. The Interim Proposal Manager is part of a team that is responsible for developing and supporting new business opportunities both proactively and in response to RFPs and competitions within an international area. The Interim Proposal Manager works closely with the Partners and Principals, under the supervision of the Marketing Director to support the continued success of the studio in national and identified international markets, both public and private sectors, and across a range of building typologies.

The Interim Proposal Manager’s primary area of responsibility is management of a highly-customized proposal creation process in a deadline-driven environment. The Manager must be proactive, self-directed, well-organized and detail-oriented. The Manager must understand and communicate the spirit of the DS+R practice, employing strong writing, editing, and graphic layout skills to develop content of the highest quality that supports the continued growth of the practice.

 Responsibilities:

  • Manage marketing deliverable creation from start to finish, including qualifications packages, proposals, presentations, and other collateral that supports business development efforts.
  • Lead RFQ/P kickoff meetings, establish review schedules, and proactively follow up on assignments to internal and external team members.
  • Create the initial draft of written and visual proposal content for review with the Partners and Marketing Director, incorporate internal feedback and ensure responsiveness to the client brief.
  • Participate in external consultant selection, and manage consultant coordination and input to proposals.
  • Work with presentation teams to strategize and rehearse for project interviews.
  • Perform pursuit-specific research on project background and context, key individuals, partners, and competitors.
  • Conduct tender surveying, lead tracking, and research that supports Go/No-Go decisions, collaborating with the BD Manager and Marketing Director.
  • Lead data-gathering initiatives and maintain marketing resources, including proposal files, CRM system, text libraries, image collections, and consultant information, implementing strategies to preserve institutional memory.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience in a design firm marketing role or equivalent required.
  • Exceptionally strong writing and copy editing skills, with the ability to draft original written content that represents the studio and its partners.
  • Refined graphic sensibility, emphasizing layout, typography, image selection and retouching.
  • Strategic thinking with nimbleness and flexibility to navigate different stakeholder groups.
  • Highly-developed communications skills, ability to speak clearly and summarize information.
  • Passion for design, and understanding of the business of architecture.
  • Superior organizational skills, multitasking abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Software and Systems: Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, CRM.

Schedule:

This is a Full Time, temporary, in-Studio position with an expected duration of ~5 months (December 2024-May 2025). 

Compensation & Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $100-$115k annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a good faith estimate based on the expectations as laid out in the job description. Although a temporary role, this position is eligible for a portion of DS+R’s comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance (pending applicable waiting period); participation in the 401k retirement plan;  paid holidays observed by DS+R; and pro-rated paid time off.
