Monterey County encompasses some of California’s most stunning scenery and offers an ideal year round Mediterranean climate. Miles of beautiful beaches, spectacular mountain ranges, groves of redwoods, low-rolling foothills, and scenic valleys are characteristics that contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by over 432,00 residents and the numerous tourists who visit the area year-round. Monterey County boasts world-renowned attractions such as the spectacular Big Sur Coast, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row and the Steinbeck Center.

The new Chief of Facilities will have a key leadership and management role within the Public Works, Facilities, and Parks Department (PWFP). The Chief will oversee a staff of 80 FTE and reports to the Director of PWFP while working closely with the management peers within the organization. This position represents an outstanding career growth opportunity, as the immediate challenges will provide a chance to implement new management systems and processes in addition to asserting high levels of leadership in further instilling a greater focus on service delivery, productivity, and organizational efficiency. As the PWFP department continues its maturation from a larger agency entity to an independent standalone organization, there are ongoing needs to strengthen management and administrative infrastructure providing greater visibility and awareness of overall operations.

The appointed candidate will typically possess any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills, abilities and required conditions of employment. These requirements may be acquired with six or more years of administrative, supervisory, or managerial level experience that includes a wide variety of Facilities, Capital Projects and/or General Services activities and a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, civil or structural engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree and possession of a PE license or certification as an AIA is highly desirable, but not required. The salary range is $131,820 - $179,940 annually, DOQ.
