We are seeking an experienced Project Architect to join our Washington, DC office. Ideal candidates will be inspired to create enduring designs in educational and community-centered environments. Our firm fosters a culture of learning and promotes sustainable design objectives. We partner with VMDO in Charlottesville, VA, to work on a variety of projects for K-12 schools, Higher Education, Community Centers, and Athletic facilities.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with the project principal, project designer, and project manager in each phase of the project design delivery process.
Contribute to all aspects and phases of the architectural design process.
Lead project team through the coordination and delivery of project detailing and documentation.
Prepares complex detailed project drawings with minimal supervision using diverse knowledge of architecture principles, practices, and advanced techniques.
Oversee work of junior and intern architects.
Assist in development of production schedule and manage to that schedule.
Assist in management of project financial performance.
Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and contractors regarding technical and design issues.
Execute Code Reviews, develop code summary and life safety documentation, and coordinate permit.
Advise on development and editing of specifications. Evaluate, select and/or approve materials and products.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or Graduate degree from a NAAB-accredited Architecture program
8+ years of professional experience in the field of architecture
Architectural License required
LEED AP and/or other high-performance credentials preferred
Skills:
Strong design and/or technical skills
Excellent graphic and verbal communication skills
Competence in working within a collaborative design environment
Proficiency in documenting design details from project lead. Confidence in generating solutions, expanding on the information provided, and exploring alternate solutions for consideration.
Experience working at varied scales of design and in both digital and hand drawn formats
Proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative, and MS Office Suites
Proficiency in 3D modeling, experience in rendering, presentation, and design in software such as Revit, Sketch Up, Enscape or Lumion.
