Waechter Architecture is seeking a designer with 3-5 years of professional experience to assist with design, documentation, and coordination through all phases of the architectural process. We are looking for someone who is curious about all aspects of architecture and enjoys being part of a community. As a small office, we value open, honest communication and collaborative individuals who have a desire to grow with the firm. In your role as a designer, you would be primarily working under the direction of a Project Lead, but may also engage stand-alone design projects with opportunities to manage communication with clients, consultants, and builders. Therefore, being an active, clear communicator, and having strong self-organization skills are important assets in a candidate.

About us: Based in Portland, Oregon, Waechter Architecture is a studio of inquisitive and open peers who enjoy supporting and learning from each other as much as we value the quality of the work we provide for our clients and community. Operating from our award-winning, all-wood CLT building—the Mississippi Workshop—we bring our simple and clear design approach to a diverse portfolio that includes multi-family housing, single-family residences, mixed-use, hospitality, retail, assembly, art spaces, and increasingly public-facing programs.

Waechter Architecture is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and a COBID-certified Emerging Small Business in the State of Oregon (ESB #20795594). We currently hold professional licenses in the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, Michigan, and North Carolina, and are open to working on projects across the Pacific Northwest, North America, and worldwide.

Qualifications:

  • Professional experience and professional degree in architecture
  • Understanding of architectural design phases and basic set organization
  • Communicative, curious, organized, and resourceful mindset
  • Interest in conceptual and holistic approaches to design
  • Strong digital modeling skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Revit, Rhino, and V-Ray knowledge are preferred but not required
  • Physical modeling skills are preferred but not required
