STORYN Studio for Architecture is a nationally and internationally focused architectural practice specializing in precise research and collaboration with clients to create unique spaces that tell a project’s story. STORYN works closely with clients to design buildings and environmental projects that meet the highest possible excellence standards while inspiring and transforming our local and international communities.

STORYN currently has a strong portfolio of work in five states, including Europe and the Caribbean. As we have secured additional exciting projects throughout the US, we seek a talented Technical Director to join our studio in St. Petersburg, FL. The area of work will predominantly be hotels, restaurants, and large Mixed-Use projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for QA/QC of all construction/contract documents, drawings, and specifications. Responsible for detailed final review and approval of all plan checks, bids, and documentation.
  • Assists project teams with creating complex or newly defined details to improve the clarity and specificity of project drawings. Assures these new details become part of the company standards library. Verifies the integrity of design and constructability of construction drawings and details.
  • Monitor, develop, and improve firm-wide QA processes, enabling the office to produce high-quality drawings and specifications.
  • Monitor construction/contract Administration processes and procedures to ensure accuracy
  • Monitor and develop technical standards and ensure that they are applied.
  • Provide technical support to staff and monitor the documentation process, identifying issues that require review, study, or development. Prepare and conduct in-house technical training to disseminate knowledge on code changes and methodologies.
  • Administer firm architectural detail library and standard templates for CAD and Revit and publish updated material.
  • Ensures technical currency with jurisdictional entitlement processes, code requirements and regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

20+ years of experience

  • Extensive knowledge of building code and plan check processes across multiple local jurisdictions.
  • Working capability in industry-standard word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel), presentation (MS PowerPoint), image editing (Photoshop or equal), page layout (Illustrator or equal), e-mail (Gmail), and file formatting (Acrobat) programs, as well as proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Excellent Construction Administration Skills
  • 5 years minimum experience with BIM (Revit) *required
  • Experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Control
  • Extensive knowledge with Florida building codes and international building codes
  • Registered or working towards architectural registration *preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent
  • Experience leading complex multi-family, higher education and or museums
  • Exceptional design skills with experience working on both small and large-scale projects
  • Knowledge of construction industry legislation, practices, and procedures
  • Working knowledge of all project work stages
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to analyze and critically assess problems
  • Imaginative and creative thinking skills and ability
