MMA is seeking to add to our pool of design talent and contribute to our office work and culture. An ideal candidate has a professional degree in architecture, has previous solid work experience at an internationally-recognized design-intensive firm and knows the meaning of working hard efficiently.  He/she is passionate about architecture, hungry to learn, and constantly striving to improve all aspects of their game.  We are looking for a special talent with an observant open mind, coupled with sophisticated design and graphic sensibility and unrestrained creative drive.

The successful candidate will work one-on-one with Michael Maltzan and the design team to lead the design effort on projects, and will eventually lead design teams and drive the design exploration on a daily basis.  Programming, conceptual studies, model making, preparation and participation in client presentations, and ensuring design excellence are among the responsibilities involved.  To maintain design integrity throughout the project, the Project Designer will be involved through all phases - from formulating concepts to resolving design details in the field during construction administration.

Job Requirements:

An ideal candidate should possess the following skills and traits:

  • Thoughtful, clear design communication (verbally, graphically)
  • Design scale versatility (must be able to think about design in a variety of scales, from details to master plans)
  • Software fluency (AutoCAD, Rhino (V-Ray or Maxwell, and Adobe Suite)
  • Physical modeling prowess (we build many physical models)
  • Precise (sloppiness is not tolerated)
  • Creative eagerness (a drive to explore different ways and approaches)
  • Desire to learn (we should learn from you as much as you should learn from us)
  • Perceptive
  • Self-critical
  • Agile
