So I am looking at replacing my 4 year old PC and came across these guys. I was able to price out a pretty great system from under $4000 which is at least $1500 cheaper than just about any other brand I looked at. That difference in price makes me question if this a good company or if somewhere along the way I am going to find out that I am getting 3rd rate components or something.
Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with them. Or if you have suggestions other than Alienware, Apple and Boxx. I require something high-end.
On a side-note their PC towers are ridiculous when it comes to the design category.
I originally chose to purchase a computer from them because my roommate had a nice system that he purchased from iBUYPOWER in 2005 and he never had any issues with it. It bit the dust in 2009 when someone spilled a beer on it otherwise it would still be running today. I was not so lucky...
In Feb of 2008 I ordered a custom set up and paid about 3000...computer showed up DOA, they wanted me to pay to shipping to return it and said they would get me a new system in 2-3 weeks. After talking with a supervisor I got them to agree to refund. Oh and that refund took over a month to go through and I had to call them several times to remind them to do it.
After that I built my own system, I knew nothing about building a computer at the time but a little research on the internet and I built one hell of a rig, saved myself at least $500 and learned something new. I continue to upgrade it when advances in technology match up with great deals on tigerdirect/newegg
Hmm.... I had a bad feeling that a low price probably meant there was something not so great going on. Sad to say.
It works out for the best in a way. The graphics card options are not Autodesk compliant and I wasn't super excited about only being able to get one 6-core processor. That and I wasn't sure how excited I was to have a computer that looks like Michael Bay designed it.
I would build my own but I am the world's least mechanically inclined person so I may have to bite the dust (and the expense) and just get the Boxx I have been eying for a while. At least Boxx has a financing option so I can spread the pain (much like my student loans).
.._. .._ _._. _._ Building a system isn't too difficult and you would save a considerable amount of money. Not to mention that if you plan correctly you can make it upgradable easily like LITS wrote.
note: Student loans will be a burden for the rest of our careers, if not life. Is it just me or does it seem like predatory lending. The thought of the greedy (banks, wall street etc.) and incompetent (over zealous home buyers etc.) receiving bailouts and tax credits while others, ie.grad students in this case, don't receive grants, few scholarships and left to deal with federal loans that accrue interest from day one is incredibly unconscionable. Whew, that rant felt good.
