I am a Designer working across the disciplines of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. I am a graduate of the 2009 M.Arch program at Columbia University GSAPP, where I was the recipient of the Lowenfish Prize and the Kinne Travel Fellowship. My studio work focused on urban-scale design problems, capitalizing on Columbia's program of individually selected studios. Proposals were always research intensive in ecological, social or economic issues and included post-industrial redevelopment in Brooklyn, habitat preservation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and social housing block rehabilitation in Holland. This focus was catalyzed by my baccheloreate degree in Architectural Studies and Urban Studies, two multidisciplinary majors with coursework in sociology, art and architectural history, economics and fine arts. Both my graduate and undergraduate studies have contributed to my professional endeavors, which span between architecture, landscape and urbanism in an effort to situate buildings within the larger context of city and society.
I have a variety of experiences studying and working abroad, which include undergraduate programs in Madrid and Rome, graduate workshops in Turin and Utrecht, and professional work in Madrid, Berlin and Caracas. I have traveled extensively throughout Western, Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans and North Africa, the latter of which was a trip funded through the William Kinne Travel Fellowship. The proposal was to study the ancient North African form of city, or Medina, and track its development through the pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial eras. A comparison was made between one French, one Spanish and one Italian colony in order to examine the influence of their respective political systems and urban planning theories on the Medinas of Tunisia, Morocco and Libya. The travel serves as the basis for ongoing research.
