WG+P Architects (Waind Gohil + Potter) have designed an elegant pavilion for UK angling site, Farlows Lake. The glulam timber framed fishing lodge sits within the heart of the Colne Valley within the green belt in Buckinghamshire and attracts thousands of anglers throughout the year.

The architects have delivered a refined pre-fabricated single storey lodge, replacing a provisional building made from containers. The contemporary pavilion needed to be practical and within a modest budget and built within a tight timeframe to allow minimum disruption to fishing at the lake. On-site assembly of the frame and un clad envelope meant that this could be achieved and the walls and roof arrived as pre-made/pre-insulated panels that were then craned into place. The building consists a café, wash rooms, office space and a large tackle shop.

WG+P have created a repetitive eye- catching design form arranged in a sweeping crescent with a light-weight metal roof ‘floating’ over the top. Materials have been simple and limited to echo the natural surroundings of the green belt and a raw aesthetic approach is combined with sophisticated detailing.
