Active member of the NCARB AXP in pursuit of the ARE and by extension, architectural licensing. The Graduate Architecture and Urban Design (GAUD) program at Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture is a progressive design environment for advanced architectural research located in Brooklyn, New York, arguably the epicenter of cultural and architectural development in New York City. The programs within the GAUD engage in live cultural debate and speculation via integrative architectural production and Directed Research. They capitalize on the assets of our esteemed faculty and enmesh design research, theory, architectural media, and technological investigations in a manner that fosters “circular” thinking and methodologies. To this end, Pratt Institute’s GAUD seeks to develop a high level of disciplinary precision, adroit technical ability, and a deep understanding of architecture and urban design that allows students to engage questions and challenges which both the profession and discipline are facing now and in the future.

Fiorello H. LaGuardia Highschool of Music and Arts & Performing Arts, New York, NY, US, High School, Visual Arts

LaGuardia Arts is one of the original four specialized high schools in New York City, as established by the New York State Legislature in 1972. The Hecht Calandra Act provides for the “establishment and maintenance” of this specialized school of the arts, as well as Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Technical High School. This act also defines the admissions criteria for LaGuardia Arts. Students are admitted on the basis of potential and achievement, as demonstrated in a demanding and competitive audition, and a review of their academic records. Currently there are nine specialized high schools in New York City, and LaGuardia Arts remains the sole specialized school of the arts.

The ensemble of learning throughout the entire M.Arch curriculum complements and reinforces the studios where the understanding, comprehension, and integration of design methods, theoretical, and technical knowledge is tested, pushed to its limits, and discussed in a critique format with faculty, guests, partners, and the GAUD Critic at Large. In addition, a dense array of Lectures and Events is coupled with each semester, focused on Directed Research themes, and are discussion-oriented, include student participation, and engage prominent scholars. Exhibitions and Publications include student work, in addition to the student publication, which offers students opportunities to engage in theoretical, editorial, and writing activities.

Pratt Institute GAUD - InProcess Publication, Honorable Mention

InProcess shows the work from the Design Studios, Computer Media, Technology, and History / Theory curriculum annually to record and disseminate the programs’ production. It provides a platform for faculty and students to set out the specific agendas, experiments, attitudes, debates and speculations vital to the program’s culture. Outstanding work produced by students are selected for publication. In addition to publication, extraordinary projects are recognized for its excellence by being archived to showcase its originality, experimentation and contribution to the architectural community.

Pratt Institute GAUD - Academic Scholarship, Scholarship

Graduate departments consider all accepted applicants for generous merit-based scholarships, all of which are automatically renewed for each year of the degree. No application is required to be considered. Amounts range by department. Continuing students are considered for assistantships as well as endowed scholarships based on particular criteria.

A Better Chance Scholarship, Scholarship

The scholarship organization A Better Chance, founded in 1963, has provided many students of color with the chance to attend college-prep private and public schools across the country. A Better Chance helps about 500 students per year attend over 300 college-prep day and boarding schools, both public and private, across the country.
