A multi-residential/commercial development demonstrates sustainable strategies and integrated design to create housing for single-parents. In proximity to the site are universities that can provide opportunities in education. With mixed development as part of its programming, incubation for local business is possible. This is demonstrated in the use of “pop-up” shops readily available for rental. A cistern system also collects rainwater to supplement plumbing and to reduce the inundation of water after rainfall, which is typical in Detroit flat topography. A solar chimney design in the stair well performs for optimal cross ventilation.
