New York, NY
A new state-of-the-art advising center guides and enriches undergraduate students' experiences. Areas of public circulation are faced with metal panel walls perforated in a pattern based on the paving in front of Low Library, the iconic center of the University. With a highly reflective surface behind the perforations, these walls reflect visitors' images onto this pattern, evoking the Center’s mission to guide students through the University, while expressing the past, present, and future of the University in one gesture.
Warmth is created throughout by the use of light wood veneer and colored furniture. Despite the dense program, natural light and a sense of spaciousness pervade throughout as a result of open areas near windows, view corridors, borrowed light via interior glass, a light-colored palate, and the reflective wall panels with their memorable pattern.
