Feminism and Architecture: Intergenerational Conversations

Tue, Mar 18 '14
55 West 13th Street, Theresa Lang Community and Student Center (Room I202), New York, NY, US

Parsons The New School for Design and The Architectural League of New York presents a keynote address by and panel discussion by Susana Torre. In 1977, Torre was the editor and curator of Women in American Architecture: A Historic and Contemporary Perspective exhibition and catalog, which attempted to highlight the contributions of women at levels of architectural design. Torre would later go on to help establish Parsons' M.Arch program, in addition to work at Barnard, Yale, and other institutions. In her talk at Parsons, she will deliver an address on the impact that feminism has already had on architecture and urbanism in the past 30 years, and speculate on why this has not been more broadly acknowledged.
