Scattered over the course of approximately seven years and four cities, my 5+ years of professional experience as an architectural designer has revealed the personal nature of design as apparent in each individual approach. Most recently, my work in Seattle focused on technical expertise and efficiency in standards. It was there I was able to oversee the entirety of a low-income housing construction process as well as assemble a complex BIM model comprising of two existing structures with a new addition from scratch.
I believe I was prepared for this technical approach by my prior experiences working within smaller teams, where each player must learn to operate in a multidisciplinary fashion. While in Boston, I was taught to step back and conceptualize a top-down approach for projects that ranged from large-scale masterplanning to localized graphic interventions. With a nonprofit firm in Montana, I investigated material qualities and the ways they characterize a space; and in Kansas City, I established a foundation of as-built documentation and historic preservation guidelines.
My varied experience has exhibited the materialization of ephemeral characteristics into the physical realm and sparked my enthusiasm for architectural design as considered from the urban scale. In particular, I am interested in environmental design as a mechanism for understanding circulation while maintaining a focus on intentional architecture moves to enhance the user experience.
