Courtyard Pavilion + nine square problem

This small courtyard pavilion located in the center of a classroom building activates the space by functioning like a machine of learning. Benches on the second floor catalyze informal conversations and outdoor presentations can occur in the sunken lecture hall. The pavilion also complements the geometry of the surrounding courtyard building. It is located on the center axis of the courtyard and it makes use of the existing staircase to create a dramatic entrance into the lecture hall. A reflecting pool in the center of the pavilion captures the sky and pulls it down into the core of the space and radiating “arms” line up with the existing trees and incorporate them into the design logic.
