Chandigarh is a Le Corbusier design city, the more western one in whole India not because of its people but its urban plan. This urban plan is based on big blocks bordered by big avenues prepared for big amounts of car. Each one of these blocks is called sector and works like a little city. In sector 45 the block absorbed a Slum, a place where Indian culture is , an outdoors culture, used to live in the street and go by walk most of places.
To design this urban plan we studied the needs in this sector, and the most important one lack, was trade. To mix the dwellings with it, this plan proposes two main pedestrian streets connected with transversal more little ones and deterrent parkings. We wanted this plot be a new interpretation of a Slum, following Indian culture by creating outdoors public spaces where developing trades, green zones and meeting spaces. To collect the huge amount of water in rain season, there are many channels and fountains, full of gravel in dry season.
Dwelling propose is based on Correa's houses and Le Corbusier studies about this Indian culture. We propose different types with courtyards and mellowed to adapt theirself to the familiar needs.and be able to grow up as much as they need.
The dwelling I developed in detail is a rectangular shape one. It has 6m façade and 30m long between dividing walls with two courtyards an a well. This dwelling can be own by one family or two. It is two storeys. A projecting volume makes the entry to the dwelling be in shadow. As yo go in, there is the first courtyard, which connects the first and second floor. On ground floor as we go in there is the kitchen and a big space to be used as living room, and lightened by the well in the middle of the house. A little corridor where the bathrooms are located connect with the spaces for bedrooms, all of them connected with the backwards own courtyard. In bedrooms sliding walls are located so as the spaces can all be able to adapt the familiar needs and situation. Dwelling on firtst floor is similar to ground floor one.
