This project was devised for the 2008 MCA Steel Competition in Chicago, Illinois for a Maritime Museum on Northerly Island. At the time Northerly Island had recently had a private airport replaced by a nature preserve. This was due to Mayor Richard Daley’s attempt to make the city of Chicago more sustainable and follow the green initiative. I was partnered with Jacob Brewer on this project, and our design’s aesthetic was chosen to resemble a deconstructed ship wreck. The spine was meant to symbolize ship ribs and the roof to ship sails.
