On the University of Tennessee’s Knoxville campus there is an opportunity to develop a new community located in the heart of the academic zone.  It is in the best interests of the University  to create a new layer of campus entirely pedestrian friendly in order to promote community.  With community in mind, it is most beneficial to design a new student union with a minimal building footprint while incorporating various programmatic elements that have been pushed to the outskirts of campus and maximize green space providing a spacial connection into the Humanities Quad.
