I have had a keen interest in contemporary architecture and design since first years of studies at the
University. I have read a lot of books and periodicals on this subject. During my studies I had a chance to
visit most countries in Western Europe. I had become familiar with modern architecture by special literature
long before my first trip, but when I saw it with my own eyes I was literally stunned by its beauty, allegiance
to traditions, harmonious relationship between new and old and skillful integration of new structures into
urban and rural context. I also admire practicality, environmental awareness and originality of architecture
and design.
In 2001 I was enrolled in the Department of Architecture of the South Ural State University. During my
studies there I had some practical training at Moscow Architectural Institute and participated in different
competitions such as Regional Architectural Competition for Professional Mastery where I was awarded
second prize. I was also second in the nomination Architectural Modeling in Autodesk Architectural
Desktop 2006 during the International Competition in the fields of graphic information, technologies and
systems, which took place in Nijniy Novgorod, Russia in October 2005. My academic results for the third
and fourth years secured me a scholarship by the governor of the region of Chelyabinsk (2004-2005). In
2006 I received a scholarship from the Danish Government and attended the School of Architecture of the
Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen for 2 academic years. During my studies in Denmark I
was temporarily employed at the Scandinavian architect’s office CF Moller and at the AJN Atelier Jean
Nouvel (Copenhagen office). In June 2008 I had a presentation of my final project and graduated from the
South Ural State University. Since September 2008 till June 2009 I was employed at the branch of British-
American firm Swanke Hayden Connell Architects in Moscow where I work with retail design of huge mall in
Astana and interior fit-out of American bank JP Morgan Chase (Moscow branch). After my working
experience in Moscow in 2010 I was admitted to a Master program in Architecture at DIA Dessau Institute
of Architecture in Germany where I have successfully gained a degree in July 2012 with 2 years of DAAD
Scholarship. During 2 years of studies on the Master of Architecture at DIA as a part of the studio I
designed buildings in different European countries from social housing in Lisbon to publisher office in
Switzerland and housing in Amsterdam. My Master Thesis in DIA exactly describes the relationship
between private living and public activities in Houthavens as a potential area for redevelopment in
Amsterdam, and the phenomenon of openness that I was fascinated by. After the graduation from Dessau
Institute of Architecture I had a chance to work at Just. Burgeff Architekten office in Frankfurt that is mostly
involved in small scale developments from office interiors to private houses as well as public underground
stations.
Primarily my motivation for a work at your office is to extend my capabilities as an architect by means of
obtaining new experience and knowledge. I would like to improve my professional standing and gain the
required competitive edge. I believe that experience and skills which can be obtained at the architectural
office is a pathway to further professional development. Then, upon returning to Russia in the future, my
extensive knowledge base would be in high demand both in architectural firms and universities, should I
choose to teach. I am sure that work at your office is a bridge for improving all creative capabilities which
are essential for a high-qualified and professional architect.
