About

Dear Sir/Madam,

As a licensed practicing architect since 1989, my practice has included a wide range of projects and building types. These include high end residential work, extensive work for the Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers (MHACY), Educational projects, as well as private and commercial clients. I have been in a position to guide design strategies, address issues relating to the day to day management of facilities, and the relation of design to budgetary concerns. My engagement in projects has included Planning and Schematic Design, the generation of detailed construction drawings, through Contract Administration and project completion.

As Project Architect for Kliment Halsband Architects, I have recently completed the work of a new Educational facility and the restoration of a 1928 New York City School Building totally $53 million in construction over a three year contract term. In addition I worked through the the planning, programming and partial redesign of an existing Educational Facility through construction documents.

In 2011 MHACY was the recipient of an $18.8 million energy conservation grant impacting 19 multifamily housing developments and more than 2,000 apartments throughout the city. This project has involved refitting facilities with high performance heating equipment and geothermal systems, among other energy saving measures. Steven M. Asaro, Architect provided critical oversight during several aspects of this comprehensive project.

As Project Architect, the work performed with Bostwick Purcell Architects included approximately $250 million of construction, primarily in relation to educational facilities directly for the School Construction Authority. This work included a full range of architectural services, from Preliminary Design through Contract Administration. Projects included new school construction as well as significant additions and alterations to existing facilities.

Private and Commercial clients have included adaptive reuse of historical structures, restaurants, office planning, retail, and highly custom residential projects, a 20,000 square foot, state of the art Veterinary Facility, Preliminary Design/Feasibility Study for a Community Outreach Educational Facility, and the Adaptive Reuse of a Historic Landmark Structure to meet German Passive Haus energy standards.

In addition to practicing architecture, I have held several teaching positions as an adjunct and visiting professor, and have taught courses throughout the 5 year Bachelor of Architecture curriculum. The focus of my teaching has been primarily within the realm of the design studio, material and methods, and several specialized courses and programs, including working with American Indian Communities across the United States in conjunction with the Graves and Repatriation Act.
A complete project list, academic CV, drawing samples, and references will be furnished upon request. With the hope a dialog may continue, I thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Steven M. Asaro, Architect
