About

I am a registered Architect with over 14 years of experience in the construction industry. After four years of service in the Army, I earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Architecture at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Over the past 10 years I have developed a background in hospitality, commercial, and high-end residential projects. Some primary areas of interest are design for disassembly and the emerging use of mass timber for building structures as it relates to the potential they hold for reducing a structure’s carbon footprint. Eric is currently serving as Project Architect on a private residence and farm.

Employment

William McDonough + Partners, Charlottesville, VA, US, Project Architect

Project Architect for a wide variety of projects for one client in Tennessee. Work produced has encompassed the design and construction of a timber framed fishing cabin, the design and construction of several new barns to support the implementation of an organic cattle and vegetable farm, the renovation of a 60 year old family home on the farm, the design and construction of a new 10,000 SQFT home, and the design and construction of a new horse barn and equestrian support facilities. All projects have been designed with strong sustainable principles (including two LEED Platinum certifications for the fishing cabin and the new home) as the underlying framework and the formal and aesthetic decisions of all the buildings were deeply influenced by the site and surrounding context and interpreted with modern sensibilities.

C. Matthew Taylor Architects, Bluffton, SC, US, Project Manager

Worked with C. Matthew Taylor Architects and May River Contracting on a substantial design build residence on the beach front of Hilton Head Island. My role as Project Manager encompassed responsibilities directly comparable to those of a Project Architect.

The residence incorporated numerous one-off building components, innovative architectural elements, and state of the art MEP systems to include:
-a lighting design with predominantly all LED lighting
-geothermal HVAC system
-a hybrid building structure composed of load bearing concrete walls, steel connecting beams, and CLT structural decks.
-top quality custom teak cabinetry
-design and fabrication of 3 stainless steel staircases and 1 stainless steel/teak cantilevered deck
