Lightweight structure: PIXELS
Pixels is an installation done by the students of the Light weight structures seminar as a part of the Master in advanced architecture program at IaaC. The project aims at making a pavilion using self-strengthening cardboard joinery that could be replicated throughout the structure. Made out of a single octagonal folded shingle, the pavilion was designed from part to whole optimising many fabrication factors like time for consumption of cutting, no additional joinery material requirement, minimum wastage of material and laser cutting inputs, This resulted in the making of a structure which could be easily dismantled and rebuilt with the same modules into a different form. The self locking structure without the use of adhesives or fixtures gets stiffer with every added layer of modules thus forming a metaphorical canvas of pixels.
