About

I currently hold a Masters of Architecture from USC and have worked as a freelance consultant in architecture firms and on independent projects for the last four years due to fluctuations in the architecture market.  I have also started my own line of earrings this year out of recycled / upcycled model scraps from my own architectural models.  You can find them on the Etsy link on my profile.

My last studio project was a 108 unit housing complex above a mixed use retail ground floor and a subway station on a heavily trafficked pedestrian and bus transit corner.  In this project, featured in my online portfolio (brittanyhenderson.carbonmade.com), I looked first at the context and the various circulation flows in order to understand the complexities the solutions had to respond to.  The final design solution came from a series of studies into clustering modules for the housing and a similar yet different series of studies of adding and subtracting grid modules (of the same module size as the cluster) on the ground plane.  This resulted in a series of push and pull studies of how the housing cluster would relate to the ground plane and then to the underground parking and subway.

My latest contract as a freelance consultant has been two design build projects with a local real estate developer / contractor, Bob Valandra, who has been building in West Los Angeles for about 20 years.  Right now I'm finishing up the final corrections on the CD set for the new residence that is the one of the first to go through the new Green Code Ordinance.

Perhaps the best example of interiors and revit work that I have done is the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral project with Goldman Architects.  In that project I was the Revit consultant putting the entire project into the Revit model solo, and I worked hand in hand with the architect, the lighting design consultants, the draftsman on the project and the structural engineers.  I created in Revit all of the custom lighting fixtures, the custom windows, the intricately filigreed gates in the front of the church and the Iconostasis screen, which is highly decorated and culturally significant.  I also created the bishop's throne, the lectern furniture and all the other objects seen in the renderings.

As far as my outlook on life, my daily working attitude, and character – I come with a wealth of knowledge, an open mind looking for new possibilities, and I can get along with and motivate others in a group easily.  I have had my own students for the last three years teaching Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, 3d Max and Rhino (as well as high school English and History) – and all of them came out better in the end for the experience.  In a company I am well equipped to 'roll with the punches' and to easily brainstorm new directions and ideas.  I look forward to seeing what Cannon Design thinks of me now for the past three years of experience in this round of hiring.  Any questions you have further or recommendations that you would like, please let me know and I will send them to you.
