A classic Tudor in Pacific Heights, the original rooms were small, dark and disjointed. Many of the walls were angled to accommodate the steep Northern slope of the property, creating awkward interior spaces. To honor the history of the house and neighborhood, Architects Dumican Mosey kept the original facade with modifications. To create an open contemporary feel the house was completely gutted and remodeled. The four floors are now unified by a soaring steel open stair with large portalopenings flanking the stair on the 2nd and 3rd levels. The detailing throughout was inspired by the home’s traditional vernacular but streamlined andre-imagined to feel fresh and modern. A minimal, high contrast palette was introduced to unify the spaces, featuring warm gray European oak floors andCararra marble mixed with white walls and dark ebonized cabinetry throughout. To maximize the natural light, numerous skylights were added as well as a translucent glass bridge on the 3rd level, bright white walls and minimal window treatments. A state of the art Boffi kitchen integrates well with the dark cabinetry and simple furnishings.
