The Architectural League of New York announced today the eight winners of Emerging Voices 2014. The prestigious invite-only, portfolio competition recognizes emerging and potentially influential firms and individuals based in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico.
This year's winners were selected by the jury for their alternative forms of practice and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as their accomplishments in the design and academic communities.

Development plans for Hong Kong's West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) continue to grow with the recently concluded Arts Pavilion Design Competition, wherein the new waterfront pavilion will become the main exhibition space for the to-be-built M+ Museum. Norwegian firm Arkitektgruppen Cubus AS from Bergen won first prize for the Mo i Rana Waterfront competition.
The competition sought for solutions to link Mo i Rana in Northern Norway to the nearby fjord and railway -- both major transit systems that connect Mo i Rana to neighboring towns and the rest of the world.

The winners were recently announced in the fourth annual SEED Awards for Excellence in Public Interest Design. The SEED Awards acknowledges design projects that highlight pressing social, environmental, and economic issues in the world.
Winning projects received a US$1,000 honorarium and an all-expenses-paid trip for one team representative to present at the Structures for Inclusion conference in New York City on March 22-23, 2014.

The AIANY New Practices Committee officially announced the winners of the 2014 New Practices New York competition at the Center for Architecture in New York this week.
The portfolio competition acknowledges young architecture and design firms and promotes their innovative work. Qualified firms had to be founded no earlier than 2004 and be based in New York City's five boroughs.

The Opengap M.ART 2013 Ideas Competition had participants mix traditional elements of the commercial arts-and-crafts market with a contemporary twist. Proposals also had to emphasize the value of handcrafted work and the craftsman-client relationship.
The competition jury met in Guadalajara, Mexico on Jan. 23, 2014 to evaluate all the entries until eventually selecting the top three winners and two special mentions.
