This year's Designs of the Year jury have chosen their crème de la crème of the world's most cutting-edge design. Since London's Design Museum announced the 76 nominees in February, the competition has narrowed down to seven category winners. Since it's Earth Day, here are the 18th annual Top Ten Green Projects just announced by the AIA and their Committee on the Environment (COTE). The awards program is the best known in the field for recognizing excellence in sustainable architecture and ecological design. The fairytale wouldn't be complete without the "Hortus Conclusus Andersen" from the Hans Christian Andersen Museum's House of Fairytales competition. Designed by Transborder Studio of Oslo, the proposal was the lucky first-prize winner of the international ideas competition that drew in nearly 500 entrants.
These results are only the beginning, as the H C Museum plans for a more restricted design competition for the House of Fairytales.

It's a well-known fact that a safe and comfortable home is essential to one's well-being. From Building Trust International's 2013 "The Future of Sustainable Housing in Cambodia" competition, over 600 registered entrants proposed sustainable housing solutions for low-income families in Cambodia.
The jury -- which also comprised of the families who moved into their new homes -- chose 3 joint-winning designs recently constructed in Phnom Penh.

"E = mc²" by Swedish firm Wingårdhs was the winning solution in an invited competition to redesign the Forus West building of major energy company Statoil in Sandnes, Norway.
Statoil will now further develop its plans for the new building based on Wingårdhs’ proposal and clarify significant regulation issues before further progress is done.
