Contrary to what you may have read lately, the Museum of Modern Art is intent on carefully preserving the former American Folk Art Museum next door.
At least, the part of it that is most recognizable to the public: an 82-foot-high sculptural ensemble of 63 panels, cast in a gorgeous copper-bronze alloy [...]
“We will take the facade down, piece by piece, and we will store it,” Glenn D. Lowry, the director of the Museum of Modern Art, said in an interview last week.

What an insult to architecture.
Next, they will sell them off to the highest bidders
Perfect image, Peyton. Perfectly tragic.
From the article: "We think of buildings synthetically,” she said. “Facades and buildings and their organization, their logic, are tied entirely together.” - Liz Diller.
Seems to sum up her proposed expansion quite well. As uninspired, generic maze of white boxes on the inside will resonate with the banal, lifeless facade on the outside. Why go half-boring when you can make the entire building as sterile and ugly as all hell? This way they're "synthetic."
Its a difficult situation. I'm glad they are at least doing this.
in the future, everyone will be boring for 15 minutes.
Good ideas flowing and catalogued over at #FolkMoma Twitter and Tumblr.

You own a work of art in the way you own an exotic bird....you can feed it, care for it, and enjoy looking at it...but you cant chop its head to make room for a new pet....
"Architecture is art."
I have found that many architects disagree with this view.
Now on display at MOMA:
the planet of the Folk...
