are in the air and archinect seems to be a great go to place for some very fine advice; here: a; b; c; d; and most recently a chance to weigh in on whether graffiti is something to include in a grad app portfolio, or not.
and just to prove architects are not only about the sexy images, an interesting thesis proposal, and commentary on same from schoolblogger Arjun at MIT.
In the world of swoopy super cool form making a few developments made it to archinect recently:
the big man himself still raises hackles with his legal problems at mit; and while you may have thought the subject well and thoroughly chewed over, the good man john maeda has chimed in with an open letter that sparked some more thought.
however if all this negative press has not got you down on the cutting edge of complex form making, the lads at AA school, led by old buddy yusuke obuchi, and patrick schumacher of AADRL, have started some very interesting work, though you may find it easier to follow directly from here and avoid some of the detours that make archinect such a lively place.
and now for something completely different:
architechnophilia has started a repository for sketches. if you got em, post em. holz.box's library of small projects has come out so beautifully, it would be great if this one could head in the same direction.
finally, some new buildings making their way to the real world:
SANAA new museum of contemporary art;
Jean Nouvel building tall next to the moma. in case you missed it this is the dezeen link with the plethora of images;
and Heike Hanada has won the stockholm library addition. Lots of criticism on this one, but she is graduate of my school and studied under my advisor, so i find myself rather glad for her, personally. if the urge hits you, please weigh in here...
so, what will happen next week on archinect? will vado return from cambridge? will orhan take over at sci-arc, will liberty bell ....ah forget it, just have a look inside. its all good.
