A growing group of critics says a black artist — or at least an American — should have been chosen to create the King memorial in the nation's capital, not Chinese. usatoday
that criticism/crap sounds familiar - just like Maya Lin winning the Vietnam memorial...its unfortunate that the public doesn't think that anyone despite race or creed can express the vision of Martin Luther - wasn't his about social harmony between cultures and races? Hmmm it seems that as far as we go, we still end up in the same rut
This is sad. Don't MLK and his legacy belong to the highest in all humanity while signify the continuous enlightening American society and the African American civil rights movement?
Maybe the supposed new protectionism and nativism are surely on the rise, beyond trade related issues.
the quality of craft first and expression second should be the foremost qualities of a sculptor for such a high-profile addition to our nations iconography. chinese, black, white etc. should not be a factor.
however, this sculpture cannot be static, nor intimidating, rather it should represent MLK's leadership, compassion, and charisma of the late civil rights leader.
the small-scale mock-up accomplishes NONE of these qualities.

These criticisms only reflect the thoughts of a tiny group of people. The media is only covering it out of a sense of obligation. Next item, please.
