The Foster + Partners and Epstein-designed Midtown Bus Terminal replacement project for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has been approved by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
The $10 billion plan will construct a new 2.1-million-square-foot facility in phases over four years with an eventual 2032 completion after a temporary space is built in 2028. The original structure dates to 1950 and will be upgraded with a new main entrance, added street-level retail, and a multi-story indoor atrium comparable to Fulton Center, and new public open space.
The Port Authority says the existing terminal has served approximately 205,000 average weekday daily passengers this year.
