The Wuhan Ski Resort, located in the Huangpi district of Wuhan, China, has emerged as a new landmark in the region, offering a fusion of sports, entertainment, and retail within a striking architectural framework. Designed by CLOU Architects, the 178,000-square-meter complex integrates a broad array of functions, including a half-kilometer-long indoor ski slope, retail precincts, outdoor carnival areas, and lakeside leisure zones. The resort reflects a growing interest in snow sports in China, fueled in part by the popularity of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The architecture employs a modular façade system composed of “three-dimensional pixels,” unifying the visual language across the various structures. This terraced aesthetic is both functional and expressive, providing a cohesive identity to the diverse building typologies. At the heart of the development is a large central lake, around which the entertainment, retail, and sports facilities are arranged. This spatial organization fosters a vibrant, 24-hour urban experience.

The indoor ski slope, which rises 100 meters high, is a defining feature of the complex. Its pixelated multimedia façade adds a dynamic element to the building, blending seamlessly with the surrounding retail streets and landscaped areas. Below the slope, a network of plazas, pathways, and interactive façades creates fluid connections between indoor and outdoor spaces. This integration activates the entire site, transforming it into a multifunctional destination.

Wuhan Ski Resort is designed to accommodate a range of activities, from professional sports events to casual leisure. Facilities such as ski schools and clubs cater to beginners and enthusiasts alike, while outdoor carnival landscapes and themed entertainment zones expand the site’s appeal. Retail areas, including both indoor and outdoor precincts, are carefully interwoven with the sports and leisure spaces, offering visitors a continuous and immersive experience.

The project’s design emphasizes connectivity and accessibility. Located near Mulan Ancient Town, the resort benefits from its proximity to transportation hubs. Landscape design by WATERLILY DESIGN STUDIO enhances the site with greenery and waterside spaces, encouraging relaxation and community engagement. The resort’s layout also supports nightlife and other activities, making it a versatile venue for a variety of uses.
