Following our previous look at an opening for a Visualization Designer at Rafael Viñoly Architects, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Compliance Director at AKAM.
The role, based in New York City, calls for an individual who will “keep their finger on the pulse of regulatory changes” pertaining to properties managed by the company. Among the core functions overseen in the role are “inspections, attestations, violations, permits, renewals and all other time-sensitive matters pertaining to a growing residential real estate portfolio.”
The open role at AKAM offers us the opportunity to explore some of the significant developments pertaining to permits and building codes that our editorial has reported on in recent months. Last month, we reported on critics who say reforms in North Carolina’s building codes may have exacerbated the scale of destruction in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene, while in July we reported on the use of burn demonstrations to help visualize protective interventions for creating disaster-proof homes.
Earlier in July, we covered plans in New York City to mandate air conditioning in all residential buildings, which one Councilmember argued would “save lives as we reckon with the challenges of the climate crisis.” In May, meanwhile, we reported on an analysis arguing that zoning laws in the U.S. create difficulties in delivering family-sized apartment dwellings in comparison to other countries.
Job Highlights is one of a number of ongoing weekly series showcasing the opportunities available on our industry-leading job board. Our Meet Your Next Employer series profiles and interviews interesting studios with open positions currently available on Archinect Jobs, while our weekly roundups curate job opportunities by location, career level, and job description.
