Thomas Shine, of Brookline, Mass., is seeking unspecified damages in federal court in Manhattan for what he said was the theft of his design. The lawsuit alleges that the "Freedom Tower" is strikingly similar to a design David Childs of SOM had seen as a juror back in 1999 for a Manhattan building proposed for the 2012 Olympic Games in New York. i saw something similar while i was in school, and i will see something similar again in the future. we constantly reinterpret what we see in our designs, wether we know it or not anyway.
i have a feeling this may be a little different than the usual because of the high-profile nature of the project.
Hmmmm. I've used a building skin identical to SOM's solution for the Freedom Tower. Maybe i should seek damages as well.... How many student projects and unrealized highrise projects have we seen that resemble the childs scheme?
