I was lucky enough to have worked on a Log Lodge in Wyoming with some local craftspeople. The coordination effort was very amusing over the phone:
Butt Swell - When the wide end of a log absorbs too much moisture Beaver Chew - A style of detailing the ends of Logs into a point, AKA Variegated Beaver Chew Log Jam - An insulating product stuffed in the gaps between logs
There are more, I just can't remember right now.

"laying studs" is a common terminology used in the field. my old colleague, his boyfriend, and i were at a bar one night. colleague said he was out in the field laying studs all day. his boyfriend, a novice when it comes to architecture, needed some clarification.

because the way they say it here in TX it comes out more "tongueingroove."

today my boss referred to a concrete detail finishing technique called "sack-rubbed". I'm bloody serious here folks...... He told me to write the note:
"Chimney cap shall be of pre-cast concrete, with 'sack-rubbed' finish."
Not cracking up was the hardest thing I did all day.
