Are there any portfolios that were accepted into GSD's MDES or MDE?

So I am interested in these programs and MIT has their amazing IDM program. I currently do a lot of industrial design work for clients, but it seems these schools are looking for more than industrial design drawings and renderings. Every portfolio I seen on Architect are more geared towards architecture, but sometimes these architecture portfolios are used for general design programs. Does anyone know of a portfolio I can see that would be suited for these programs?
Are portfolio projects usually personal projects that applicants take on specifically for their portfolios? Work from their employment?
