I engaged an architect to design a garage. In calculating cost of materials I allowed for a 200 mm /9 inch walls.
In setting out for site construction, the builder, consulting the drawings, said it is designed for 100 mm /4 inch walls.
Setting out measurements for the pitched roof are, 6 Metres X 5.4 Metres, and a height of 3.8 Metres at the ridge.
As a layman, I am concerned that, with such a height and span, the walls would not be strong enough. The builder propose including pillars/piers.
Kindly let me have your advice, please. Thank you.

Let's take a poll: How much more do you think the construction costs will rise (due to the GC recommendations) relative to the cost of hiring the architect for CA services? I'm thinking at least x3.
