1. If we are simply pursuing work in California and do not have a physical presence in the State and no guarantee of work, would we be required to get a business license prior to pursuing said work? We do not want to have to pay filing fees/any possible taxes prior to actually landing a job.
2. We are currently not licensed in CA, per my conversation with the CAB, we would need to be licensed in order to respond to RFQ/RFPs, which means that we would have to partner with a California-licensed architect in lieu of taking and passing the CSE. If we were to partner, how does that work in terms of registering our firm name with the California State Board? Is a CA business license required to register your firm name? I’m thinking yes, but wanted to ask these questions here first in conjunction with my looking at California statutory law and requirements.
