Also, my image from The Dark Backward didn't show up, but if you're thinking about third arms there is really only one cultural touchstone and that is the movie The Dark Backward.

The ethical question is pretty great too. I'm totally in line with Johnson...the designer should have preempted the issues with some basic communication with the client. Or, discuss with the client as to why it is a bad idea.
I'd want an extra right arm. 2 on the keyboard and 1 on the mouse. Function over symmetry.
