Just came across this post and tried to follow the link to the Rhino file--seems to be dead. Any chance it's still kicking around out there? Would love an updated link, if possible
Thanks!

i have a 3d gis buildings shape. you can export this as vml or other in Max or Rhino and "cap" or "normal" the buildings as sometimes sides will be missing. its a huge file so generally i select the region im working in.
let me know if interested.

When I was at SOM-SF, I used pieces of it as context to Link into Revit files for projects in SF - I don't have it - wish I did - But as I said earlier, I am building Revit Parametric versions of parts of SF.

in the meantime, here is a good link to how you will need to execute the conversion from GIS to Max or Rhino.
Or anyone who has just done the conversion? Could try to return the favor with something!

Hi Spackle,
Do you still have the San Francisco 3D model, I'm interested.
In exchange, I might have something for you : I have modeled the terrain or the entire SF peninsula based on the GIS contours from the city of San Francisco...
Or anybody else, if you could send me a link to the 3D model, that would be great.
Thank you

Thank you Selahija for the link to guide how to extract 3d models from Google Earth
Does anyone have any models that show a higher level of detail as well as accuracy along the waterfront from the wharf all the way down to the Ferry Building? Sadly, I think I've probably spent more time looking for a model like the one SOM made than it would have taken me to build the area I need myself.
I think I'll probably just throw in the towel and build it myself for this project and perhaps add in the rest of the city Phantom was so kind to donate to the forum later. That said if a higher quality version of SF ever pops up (or a comprehensive database of other cities/terrains for that matter!) you would be doing me a massive favor by directing me to it.
Anyone have or know where to get a SF 3D model?
Much appreciated!
google earth, son!
What file format do you need?
for rhino or 3D studio max so 3DM or 3DS, preferably
Skidmore Owings and Merrill does... this model must have leaked somewhere.
Yes, its quite an amazing model. Now, if only we could find the leaky source...
A quick search did not reveal it, but seems to me there was a link to a Rhino model kicking around in the forum about 18 months back.
This is not the SOM model but might be useful to you. It is not scaled.
