Bungalow Renovation

Built in the 1890s, this 560 s.f. beach bungalow is situated  near Rockaway’s now famous surf beach on 91st street. Previously a three-unit summer shack, it was converted into a 2-bedroom year-round apartment in the 1950s. The property had not not been updated in 50 years when we began the project. As the bids came back significantly above budget, I embarked on the four month project doing the work myself and subcontracting the electrical and plumbing work. Drywall was removed from the ceiling to expose the original tongue and groove boards, and the floor was painted with Farrow and Ball floor paint to unify a mash-up of patch repairs from years of wear and tear. A wall separating the living room from the kitchen was removed to join the spaces into one open area.
