• While in school, I was challenged with incorporating a new mixed-use project on a block in downtown historic Savannah, Georgia
• The Program stipulated a specific type and number of apartments, including studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, each with a balcony; also a semi-public retail or gallery space was required
• I responded to the commercial buildings on three sides of my block and created 3 four-story apartment buildings that incorporated a variety of numbers, ages, and sexes of people to encourage smaller communities within the larger community of the apartment building; the one smaller apartment building corresponded to the heights of the residences across the street
• The restaurant/gallery space is centrally-located to ensure optimal usage of the residents, and it is preceded by a garden that is an extension of the garden located across the street
• The exterior cladding of the apartment buildings are composed of concrete, wood panels and glass; I felt the wood panels would create a sense of warmth and "green living" in the historic city of Savannah.
