With a close-knit team of nine, we prioritize thoughtful, high-quality work in a collaborative and engaging studio environment. We're seeking a motivated and talented Architectural Designer to join us as we take on exciting, impactful projects across New York City and beyond.

The Role

At Studio Modh, we value a generalist architectural philosophy, encouraging team members to engage across all phases of project development. As an Architectural Designer, you will work directly with Principal Philip Ryan and contribute to all stages of design, documentation, and construction.

You will gain hands-on experience working on one to two projects at a time, from concept to completion, and will be involved in key aspects of the architectural process, including:

  • Client communication
  • Conceptual and schematic design
  • Technical documentation
  • On-site construction administration

We emphasize continuity, ensuring our team members grow by staying involved throughout the lifecycle of each project.

Qualities We're Looking For

  • Energetic, effective communicator with a proactive attitude.
  • Efficient, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to take initiative.
  • Interest in working within a small studio environment and contributing to a variety of tasks.
  • Passion for seeing designs come to life in built form.
  • Experience in residential, institutional, or commercial projects is highly valued.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3–6 years of professional experience in an architecture or interior design firm.
  • Proficiency in schematic design through construction documentation.
  • Software expertise:
    • Autodesk Revit (essential)
    • Rhino 3D (for conceptual studies and schematic design)
    • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Maxwell, Enscape, or V-Ray rendering tools
  • Additional skills valued:
    • Physical and 3D printed model-making
    • Hand-drawing capabilities
    • Construction administration experience (a plus but not required)

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Healthcare coverage.
  • 401K plan.
  • Studio-supported ARE exam costs (upon passing).
  • Time off:
    • Two weeks of vacation + holidays (increasing to three weeks over time).
    • Optional “work from anywhere” days paired with vacation periods.
  • Flexible work arrangements:
    • In-studio Monday through Thursday, with optional work-from-home Fridays.

Our Studio Culture

We are a small but dynamic team of creatives working out of a spacious, light-filled studio in the historic Studebaker Building in Crown Heights. The studio’s floor-to-ceiling windows provide stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, fostering an inspiring and comfortable work environment.

We maintain a 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM schedule, with occasional exceptions for deadlines. The principal prioritizes hands-on, visceral learning by taking staff to job sites, client meetings, and educational events weekly. Additionally, we host quarterly studio outings to museums, architectural tours, or lectures in the region to spark creativity and expand perspectives.

Our Location

The studio is conveniently located in the Studebaker Building, Crown Heights—home to a vibrant creative community of architects, filmmakers, and designers. The location offers:

  • Easy access to Citi Bike stations and subway lines (C, S, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains).
  • Proximity to a variety of restaurants, bars, and amenities around Franklin Avenue.
  • On-site and outdoor bike racks.
  • Tenant discounts on local services (e.g., yoga classes, wine tastings).
