Our Residential Studio is seeking an Architect – Architectural Designer with 6+ years of work experience who has a profound interest in custom home building and is reflective in all aspects of their design work. We are particularly interested in connecting with designers who have a developed understanding of building envelopes and home performance and are focused on producing elevated design work. Our ideal candidate approaches learning and the design process with energy, curiosity, and an intuitive mind. We are a team that seeks solutions to design opportunities proactively and we often work with our team of builders and cabinet makers to generate creative recommendations that best serve our clients.
At Woodhull, you will:
Be responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client’s needs.
Create presentations that include, but are not limited to, technical drawings, renderings, diagrams, and other critical information to communicate concepts with clients and other team members.
Participate in regulatory review to verify Local and State codes and regulations.
Independently apply advanced architectural concepts and designs.
Provide professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects.
Collaborate with your Principal Architect(s), Project Manager(s), and design team to move a project from Schematic Design through Design Development toward Construction Documentation.
If the opportunity arises, be responsible for moving a project from Project Planning through Contract Administration phases, with guidance from the Principal Architect and/or a supporting Project Manager.
Communicate with our Construction division and other subcontractors to gain an understanding of budgets and schedules that best serve our clients' needs.
Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
Coordinate with clients on project needs and find solutions to their design concerns in a professional and timely manner.
Mentor and collaborate with junior team members, providing guidance and technical support as needed.
Occasionally measure and document existing structures.
Requirements:
Bachelors or Masters in Architecture from an accredited institution.
Licensed Architect or on the path to licensure.
Six or more years of professional experience are required. Involvement and experience in high-end, custom residential is a plus.
Knowledge and aptitude at using Revit BIM software (highly preferred) or other 3D modeling software.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
Knowledge of Twin Motion is a plus
Experience and interest in interior design would be a great asset.

At Woodhull, we enjoy in-person collaboration. This position is based in our newly renovated Portland, Maine office. Remote work is not available, although one day a week work from home may be available after a 90-day training period.
