Benjamin Porto Architecture is seeking a Senior Technical Architect to join their Brooklyn team. Prior design experience in high-end hospitality and retail interior design is required as is knowledge of materials, finishes, furniture, and accessories. Technical expertise in construction assemblies and detailing is also necessary as the role will oversee all project aspects from concept design to construction. As this position will be a leadership role, candidates will need to provide creative and professional guidance to team members and contribute to the existing collaborative studio culture.

Established in 2020, Porto Architecture is a venture built upon decades of experience designing and constructing experimental buildings, spaces, installations, and artworks. The firm’s international catalog of building typologies spans from cutting-edge retail stores to mountain retreats, large interactive museum exhibits to soaring residential towers. The company’s foundational directive is to reevaluate prevailing trends in architecture to discover more productive relationships between the built world and its counterparts in the natural and digital worlds. The aim is to produce permanent ‘forever architecture’ that does good, as well as temporary interventions that educate and facilitate agency.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of professional experience in responsible positions in architecture and/or general construction.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, VRay, Adobe Suite.
  • Ability to independently produce and assemble construction documents and review and mark-up drawings sets for team members. 
  • Extensive technical experience in DD, CD and CA phases
  • Professional skills in project management, interior custom detailing, code research, and specification writing
  • Advanced knowledge in schedules, budgeting, and FF&E packages.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Overseeing project fabrication/installation/construction.
  • Designing and presenting concepts to clients in collaboration with principals and other design team members.
  • Architecture or design-related degree.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
