ONE Architecture & Urbanism is seeking a Intermediate Architect and Urban Designer with a minimum of two years of professional experience, with an interest in urban design and the public realm. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and nimble architect, landscape architect, or urban designer who is excited about design at all scales and is passionate about climate action and sustainability.

ONE Architecture & Urbanism is an internationally renowned planning, urban design, and architecture practice that specializes in large-scale climate adaptation planning, resilient infrastructure design, and public architecture. Based in New York City and Amsterdam, ONE’s work spans multiple cities and regions across the United States, the Netherlands, Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean. This candidate would be joining the Architecture & Urban Design team in New York City where ONE is currently working on several once-in-a-generation coastal resilience and master plan projects that reimagine key stretches of New York City’s waterfront. The Intermediate Architect and Urban Designer will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the design of some of the largest high-profile sites in the city.

The Intermediate Architect and Urban Designer will:

  • Work on spatial design concepts for coastal resiliency, transportation, logistics, public open space, and architecture projects
  • Work with senior team members to develop design alternatives, visual representations, and detailed documentation
  • Collaborate and coordinate with a wide range of disciplines and project partners, including marine, civil, and structural engineers, transportation planners, landscape architects, as well as other architects
  • Produce clear and graphically compelling presentations describing design options and trade-offs for both clients and community groups to facilitate multi-stakeholder decision making
  • Make physical study and presentation models 

The ideal candidate:

  • Is interested in using images to tell a story, explain ideas, and build consensus.  
  • Is interested in low-carbon construction practices and sustainable, nature-inclusive design
  • Is comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment. Has strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Professional degree in architecture or landscape architecture
  • 2+ years of professional experience in architecture, landscape architecture, and/or urban design.
  • Fluency in AutoCAD, Rhino, Microsoft Office, Adobe, GIS, and other typical tools.
  • Professional experience working on renderings and other client-facing visualizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Revit, ArcGIS, Grasshopper.
  • Experience in building models.
  • Experience working on large-scale urban master plans and/or public sector projects.
  • Familiarity with NYC zoning, NYC building code, ULURP, waterfront design guidelines.
  • Has experience in pre-design tasks including zoning analysis, mass/bulk analysis, etc.

Pay & Benefits:

The expected salary range for this position is between $70,000 to $90,000 based on ability and relevant work experience. Benefits are offered immediately from the commencement of employment: including medical, dental, and vision programs; 401(k) plan; commuter benefits; paid holidays including one week of office closure in December and flexible PTO.
