Position: Preservation Architect/Architectural Conservator

Building Conservation Associates, Inc. (BCA) seeks a licensed Preservation Architect with a degree in Historic Preservation (concentration in Architectural Conservation) to join BCA’s New England office, located in Newton, MA.
Responsibilities:
The Preservation Architect/Architectural Conservator will be responsible for providing a full range of services related to documentation, conditions assessment, and design of conservation treatments for historic and existing buildings. The applicant for this position will be responsible for assessing the condition of historic and existing properties (many designated Landmarks or Landmark-quality buildings); identifying the root cause of the deterioration; developing treatment recommendations; preparing Construction Documents for interior and exterior renovation and repairs; and, actively participating in all aspects of the construction administration phase (reviewing the Contractor's work, mockups and submittals, RFI, Bulletins, etc.). In addition, the work often includes historical research, filing the proposed work with regulatory agencies (LPC, SHPO, NPS, etc.); field and laboratory materials testing; and technical report writing. Prior experience with historic paint analysis is desirable, but not required.
Qualifications:
Candidates applying for this position should have a professional degree in architecture and a degree in historic preservation with a concentration in architectural conservation. They should have at least 10 years of related professional experience, a familiarity with building codes, an understanding of historic building materials and assemblies, a working knowledge of conservation treatments, an ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, and excellent communication skills. Demonstrable proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and Adobe Creative Cloud is required.
A successful candidate will be comfortable performing field investigations in an outdoor environment and working at heights from aerial lifts and all forms of scaffolding. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout New England is essential, as work of this office includes projects throughout the region. This position will employ a hybrid office/remote work plan.
