RFRM Collective

Our team of diverse individuals is passionate about exploring the built environment through art, architecture, and design.

We specialize in designing various structures such as custom houses, multi-family developments, restaurants, gallery spaces, and furniture. We believe that research is the key to our design process, and we use various perspectives to ensure that our designs represent the needs and experiences of our clients.

We work closely with a range of clients, including individuals, city officials, developers, community groups, and non-profits. Our goal is to create architecture that is sustainable, cares for individuals, nurtures life, and ensures longevity. We aim to understand our clients' needs to provide custom-tailored solutions that meet their requirements and improve their quality of life.

RFRM Collective is a City of Los Angeles certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE).

The Position

We are seeking mid-level professionals with 5-8 years of experience, preferably in custom homes, to lead projects and staff. You will work on custom homes, restaurants, and commercial developments. You will be expected to excel in design, understand the requirements of permit and construction sets, synthesize building systems, lead client and consultant meetings, and mentor entry-level staff.

Working Culture and Schedule

We offer a work environment that seeks to encourage professional agency. This requires the ideal candidate to be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Our space is more than an office; it is a place for conversation, a forum to express and test ideas, and a conduit to create personal/professional relationships. We are looking for someone to work in person in our DTLA Arts District studio. We do not have a set schedule or a set time to begin/end work as long as the minimum time is met (i.e., 40-hour work week). We expect you to attend meetings as required and to perform self-accountability, encouraging a well-balanced work-life schedule.

  • Collaboratively execute multiple projects simultaneously from concept through completion
  • Eloquently provide design input and project management expertise
  • Coordinate consultants and produce a full set of design drawings
  • Monitor schedules and time allocation to ensure projects are on time and on budget
  • Effectively preserve design intent and implement QA/QC standards
  • Contribute practical knowledge of building codes, building materials, and construction practices
  • Interest in ground-up single-family homes, interiors, and custom furniture
  • Desire to continually learn new skills and take direction and initiative

Required Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch, M.Arch, or both) from a U.S.-based accredited institution. Licensure is preferred but not required
  • Design/graphic sensibility
  • 5 to 8 years of professional architectural experience in the U.S., preferably in Southern California/Los Angeles area
  • Local to Los Angeles with the ability to commute to the Arts District in Downtown
  • Experience working with city agencies, scheduling/staff workflow, coordinating consultants, and managing a design team
  • Highly proficient in creating presentation materials in Revit, Enscape, Rhino, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with construction documents in Revit and AutoCAD is a must
  • Motivated, independent, flexible, cooperative problem solver with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills
  • Extremely organized, collaborative, reliable, able to prioritize and change gears as required
